Best Restaurants in Marshfield, MA: A Local's Picks
This is the short list we give our own guests: the tables within roughly twenty minutes of our house in the Rexhame area that we send friends to, ranked by cooking, character, and how often we actually go back. It is an editorial list, not a directory — a place earns its spot by being the right answer to a specific question: best dinner, best lunch after the beach, best coffee before it. It is one chapter of our Marshfield Local's Guide — the beaches, events, and days on the water that fill the rest of a Marshfield week.
One honest piece of geography: Marshfield's dining scene spills across its town lines. A few of the best meals in the radius sit in Duxbury and Scituate, and we have included them rather than pretend otherwise. Every entry from outside Marshfield is labeled with its town, so you always know when a recommendation involves a short drive. Drive times below are from the Rexhame area.

Our Top Picks at a Glance
Best overall
Bluefish River Tavern — Duxbury
Our best all-around restaurant: a broad menu — very good seafood, fried chicken, fish and chips, shrimp 'nduja, and cocktails — executed consistently. Date-night quality with tavern ease, about 17–20 minutes from the house.
Best classic seafood
Green Harbor Lobster Pound — Green Harbor
The best classic seafood shack in Marshfield, full stop: generous lobster rolls, fried clams, scallops, and chowder at picnic tables by the Cut River. Cash only, and seasonal — closed for the winter; it reopens in the spring.
Best waterfront experience
The Raw Bar at Island Creek Oyster Farm — Duxbury
Oysters shucked steps from where they were grown, outdoor seating on Duxbury Bay, and the light going down over the water. It now runs year-round — indoor lounge, shorter fall/winter hours — but a fair evening is still the way to go.
Best date night
The Winsor House at Island Creek Oyster Farm — Duxbury
A historic 1803 house at the oyster farm, all fireplaces and low light, serving Island Creek oysters, crudo, seafood, and cocktails — the reservation to make for an anniversary or a last-night-of-vacation dinner.
Best Overall
Bluefish River Tavern — Duxbury
Our best all-around restaurant — the table we name first when someone asks where to eat around Marshfield. Bluefish River Tavern runs a broad menu — very good seafood, fried chicken, fish and chips, shrimp 'nduja, and cocktails — and executes all of it consistently. It is the go-to for a really good dinner without making an expedition of it: date-night quality with tavern ease, on Tremont Street in Duxbury, about 17–20 minutes from the house. It keeps its place in our Date Night list below, too — it earns both.
The Salt Marsh Bistro and Bar — Scituate
If you only book one serious dinner during a Marshfield stay, make it this one. The Salt Marsh Bistro is our pick for the best cooking in the radius: chef-driven New England food on a seasonal menu, with more ambition than the standard South Shore seafood-and-tavern formula. It sits on New Driftway in Scituate, about 18–20 minutes from Rexhame, and it is worth every one of them. This is the special-occasion table and the one we name when another cook asks where to eat. One piece of timing matters: in October 2026 the Bistro announced it will close permanently on October 31 — book it before the month ends.
Waterfront Dining
Roht Marine & The Boathouse — North River
Roht is a working marina on the North River, and its Boathouse bar is where we go for drinks on the water. Order a cocktail, watch the boats move with the tide, and let the evening run long. The same property rents boats — including pontoons — so a Roht afternoon can pair a few hours on the river with drinks back at the dock. About 15 minutes from the house, up Main Street.
The Raw Bar at Island Creek Oyster Farm — Duxbury
The best waterfront experience on this list. The Raw Bar sits at the oyster farm itself on Duxbury Bay, with outdoor seating on the water and oysters shucked steps from where they were grown. It is at its best on a warm evening — a dozen on the half shell, something cold to drink, and the light going down over the bay — and it now runs year-round, with an indoor lounge and shorter fall/winter hours (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) once the patio season ends. About 18–20 minutes from Rexhame — go on a fair evening and go early enough to stay for sunset.
The Point Restaurant — Green Harbor
Beside the marina at Town Pier in Green Harbor, The Point is the classic harbor-side lunch or early dinner: lobster rolls, fried clams, chowder, and fish tacos with the boats in view. It is casual in the way a pier restaurant should be, and an easy 10–12 minute drive from the house. Pair it with a walk around Green Harbor before or after.
Green Harbor Lobster Pound — Green Harbor
A waterside seafood shack by the Cut River — picnic tables, paper trays, and the harbor in front of you. Full notes are under Seafood & Lobster below, but it belongs on any waterfront list: this is lunch with your feet practically in the marsh grass. Cash only, and seasonal, so check hours before you drive over.
Mill Wharf Restaurant — Scituate
The waterfront table in Scituate Harbor: an institution since 1984 on the site of the original mill, with panoramic harbor views from the dining room and decks — come by boat and dock, or by car and watch the fleet from your table. The menu is classic New England seafood done straight: an award-winning lobster roll, steamed Scituate lobsters, baked scrod with a Ritz-cracker crust, and the fried standards the house has served since it opened. Open daily from 11:30am, to 9pm (10pm Friday and Saturday). One thing to plan around: Mill Wharf is walk-in only, first come first served — on a summer weekend, go early or put your name in and walk the harbor. About 20 minutes from the house.
Seafood & Lobster
Superior Lobster & Seafood — Ferry Street corridor
Superior is a fresh seafood market first, and it is where we stock the house. Pick out live lobsters to cook back at the rental, or take the easier road with their lobster rolls and chowder. A Marshfield week should include at least one cook-at-home lobster night, and this is the place that makes it simple. About 8 minutes from Rexhame, on Marshfield Avenue.
Green Harbor Lobster Pound — Green Harbor
The best classic seafood shack in Marshfield, full stop. Generous lobster rolls, fried clams, scallops, chowder, and onion rings, eaten at picnic tables by the Cut River in Green Harbor. Two practical notes from experience: it is cash only (there is an ATM on site), and it is seasonal — it opens for the warm months, so confirm hours before making the trip. About 12 minutes from the house.
The Oysterman — Duxbury
A small coastal gastropub — roughly fifty seats plus a patio — in Duxbury's old train station area, built around the town's oysters. Come for raw Duxbury oysters, the lobster roll, the oyster po'boy, fried oysters, and fish tacos. It takes reservations, which makes it a useful halfway point between a shack lunch and a formal dinner, and there is a second location in Scituate. About 19–20 minutes from Rexhame.
Salty Days Fish Co. — Ocean Street
The newest seafood name in Marshfield: Cohasset's fish-market kitchen opened on Ocean Street in June 2026, about 5 minutes from the house, run by owners who live in town. It works both ways a Marshfield week needs — a working fish market where you can buy the catch to cook at the house, and a kitchen turning out lobster rolls, lobster rangoons, poke bowls, and crispy fish tacos to eat on the spot. The kitchen runs 11am–9pm, to 10pm on Friday and Saturday. Casual and walk-in: the easy answer when nobody wants to cook but everybody wants seafood.
Casual Lunch
Mae's Sandwich Shop — Ocean Bluff
The best lunch near the house. Mae's, in Ocean Bluff about 5–7 minutes from Rexhame, builds its reputation on house-made focaccia and roast beef — the two calling cards we order around and the reason the line forms. This is the sandwich run after a morning on the beach, and the first name we give guests who ask where to grab lunch without a plan.
The Corner Cafe — Ocean Street
A proper sit-down breakfast and lunch place on Ocean Street, open 8am–3pm and closed Tuesdays. The Corner Cafe is the dependable morning routine: coffee, a real breakfast, and no fuss, about 10 minutes from the house. It also anchors the Coffee & Breakfast section below — some places earn two mentions.
Venus II — Brant Rock
An oceanfront sports bar in Brant Rock with a two-story ocean-view deck, about 8 minutes from the house. Venus II is known for its 10-inch South Shore bar-style pizzas — order at least one per person — and a clam chowder the kitchen is rightly proud of. Open from 11:30am daily (later on Friday and Saturday), closed Tuesdays. It is the easy, everyone-is-happy dinner after a beach day.
Satuit Tavern — Scituate
The old-school harbor tavern in Scituate: a family-friendly pub on Jericho Road by the harbor, known for its famous hot buttered lobster roll, South Shore bar pizza, clam chowder, and a Thursday-night prime rib special. Dinner runs nightly from 4pm, with lunch added Thursday through Sunday from 11:30am. It is walk-in only — no reservations — so expect a short wait on summer weekends; the harbor is right there for it. About 20 minutes from Rexhame.
Date Night
The Winsor House at Island Creek Oyster Farm — Duxbury
The most distinctive proper dinner nearby. The Winsor House occupies a historic 1803 house at the oyster farm, all fireplaces and low light, serving Island Creek oysters, crudo, seafood, and cocktails. If the Raw Bar is the farm's summer afternoon, the Winsor House is its evening — the reservation to make for an anniversary or a last-night-of-vacation dinner. About 18–20 minutes from Rexhame.
The Sun Tavern — Duxbury
A cozy 1741 farmhouse with a fireplace, serving steak, scallops, duck, and lobster ravioli. The Sun Tavern is our cold-weather and date-night choice in Duxbury: historic bones, a menu with real range, and a room that feels a world away from the beach crowds. About 17–20 minutes from the house.
Liv Creative Cuisine — Ocean Street
Farm-to-table New American cooking from chef-owner Tom Coleman and his wife Maureen, who named the restaurant for their daughter Olivia. The menu is locally sourced and changes with the farms; the signatures are the loaded baked-potato gnocchi, burrata, buffalo shrimp, and shrimp toast, with creative cocktails like the Carajillo and the Spicy Mango Rita alongside. There is patio seating and a kids' menu, so it works for a family dinner as well as a date. Plan ahead: Liv is open Wednesday–Saturday only, and reservations are by phone. About 10–12 minutes from Rexhame, on Ocean Street.
Oro — Scituate
The fine-dining name on this coast. Chef Robin King's seasonal New American cooking — local farms, the daily catch off local boats, dishes like lobster and crab risotto and halibut ceviche — in a quiet garden-room setting on Chief Justice Cushing Highway in Scituate. Two weekly rituals are worth planning around: $1 oysters on Wednesdays, and $5 tapas on Thursdays from 4–6:30pm. Open Tuesday–Saturday, 4–9pm; closed Sunday and Monday. Reservations are by phone only — (781) 378-2465 — and worth making. About 18 minutes from the house.
Salt Society — Scituate
The sushi entry this list was missing: a modern raw bar and sushi room on Front Street in Scituate Harbor, in the Maurilago building. Come for the Green Harbor roll and the Firecracker roll, spicy tuna crispy rice, oysters, and a serious cocktail list — the harbor-town answer when the group wants something other than fried seafood. Per the restaurant's own site, hours run Monday–Thursday 4–9pm and Friday–Sunday from noon to 9pm; reservations by phone at (781) 733-9030. About 20 minutes from Rexhame.
Bluefish River Tavern — Duxbury
Our best all-around neighborhood restaurant. Bluefish River Tavern runs a broad menu — very good seafood, fried chicken, fish and chips, shrimp 'nduja, and cocktails — and executes all of it consistently. It is the go-to for a really good dinner without making an expedition of it: the place we name when someone wants date-night quality with tavern ease. About 17–20 minutes from the house.
Coffee & Breakfast
SlackTide Coffee Roasters — Ocean Street
When the coffee matters, start here. SlackTide, on Ocean Street about 10 minutes from the house, is the place to go for espresso or a properly made cup, and they also do a panini-style breakfast. Open 7am–3pm daily. Our routine: SlackTide first, then the beach.
The Coffee Shack — Green Harbor
A Green Harbor favorite for hand-cut donuts, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee, about 12 minutes from Rexhame. One piece of local knowledge matters here: arrive early, because the homemade treats can sell out. The donut run is a Marshfield ritual — treat it like one and set the alarm.
The Corner Cafe — Ocean Street
Listed in full under Casual Lunch above: the sit-down breakfast place, 8am–3pm daily, closed Tuesdays. If your group wants a leisurely morning meal rather than coffee to go, this is the room.
B's Ice Cream — Snow Road
For treats: homemade ice cream made on the premises on Snow Road, about 12 minutes from the house — classic and seasonal flavors, with fresh baked waffle cones. The post-beach, still-in-sandals stop.
Farfar's Danish Ice Cream Shop — Duxbury
Danish-style ice cream made fresh on site since 1979. Farfar's is a local-family institution, and the roughly 20-minute drive to Duxbury is part of the outing. Some trips are about the destination being worth it; this is one of them.
Good to Know Before You Go
- Summer weekends fill up. For date-night tables, reserve ahead wherever the restaurant takes reservations. Liv takes them by phone only — and is closed Sunday through Tuesday — so plan that dinner early in the week.
- Closed Tuesdays. Both Venus II and the Corner Cafe close on Tuesdays; build the week's lunches around it.
- Cash only at the shack. Green Harbor Lobster Pound does not take cards, and it is seasonal — check its hours before driving over, especially outside the summer peak.
- Some pleasures are seasonal. The Raw Bar at Island Creek now runs year-round — an indoor lounge, shorter fall/winter hours, closed Mondays and Tuesdays — but its patio is a warm-weather joy, and on a cold night its sibling the Winsor House is the farm's fireside evening.
- Scituate Harbor runs walk-in. Mill Wharf and the Satuit Tavern take no reservations at all — first come, first served. Go early on summer weekends, or put your name in and walk the harbor while you wait. Oro and Salt Society take reservations by phone.
- Hours move with the seasons. South Shore kitchens adjust hours spring and fall. A quick check of the restaurant's own site — each name above links to it — is worth it before a special trip.
